The Band of the Welsh Guards - Brecon

1st Battalion Welsh Guards 2019 St David's Day Presentation of Leeks

On Friday 1st Mrach, the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards held their annual St David's Celebrations in the Garrison Town of Brecon in Mid Wales. The day started with a service in Brecon cathedral. The band, under the direction of their Director of Music Major David Barringer MBE, performed music as people walked in, out and also during the service.

Following the service, the parade formed up outside the cathedral and marched down to The Bulwark in Brecon to the sounds of 'The Welshman', 'The National Emblem March', and The Regimental Quick March 'Rising of the Lark'. During the ceremony of 'The Presentation of The Leek's, where all members of the battalion are given a leek by their officer, the band performed Gordon Langford's arrangement of 'Men of Harlech' and then a Big Band version of the traditional welsh tune, 'Sospan Fach'! During this, the band's Bandmaster WO2 David Hatton conducted and their Director of Music presented each member of the band with a leek.

After this, the parade marched off to The Theatr Brycheiniog, where a reception was to be held.
